Sports Massage Oil is the only blend in this range built on shea butter, and it is the only one of the sixteen with a butter on the ingredient list at all. That gives it a heavier body which holds up under elbow and forearm pressure for a full hour, and skin comes out of the session soft and dry to the touch. Interesting fact: the vetiver in this blend is distilled from roots, and vetiver roots reach 2 to 4 metres into the soil before harvest, which is where the dry, earthy base note comes from. Angelica sits alongside it as a second root oil, so the aroma reads green and low in sweetness. Sodium chloride is the mineral element in the formula and Sports is the only one of the sixteen with a salt on its list. It dries down within a few minutes of the last stroke, which is what lets a client dress and leave before your next appointment starts. Main benefits:

How the product works: Grape seed oil thins as the hands warm it and covers a whole muscle group in one pass. Shea butter sits second on the list and it is the solid fat in the blend, which is why the slip lasts under sustained pressure. Lavender, vetiver and angelica set the scent of the room low and dry, which suits athletic clients who would find a floral treatment out of place. Allantoin closes the list and its job is skin comfort where the same area gets worked week after week. How to use:

1. Application: Warm 15 ml between the palms and lay it across the whole muscle group before the first stroke. One application at the start spreads further than several small ones added as you go.
2. Massage: Open with long effleurage along the muscle fibre, then move into petrissage on quads, calves, hamstrings and lower back once the tissue has warmed.
3. Tip: On a post-event client, work at half your usual pressure for the first ten minutes, then go deeper. The shea butter base holds its slip long enough to carry the second half of the hour.
